Unraveling the History of Manderlak: A Historic Landmark in Bratislava

The shopping and living house Manderla, among local people also known as Manderlak, it is first Bratislava’s skyscraper. Located in Square of Slovak National Uprising close to Kamenne square.

The building was designed by the architects Christian Ludwig, Emerich Spitzer & Augustin Danielis for a Bratislava’s entrepreneur and butcher Rudolf Manderla, who used to work in USA and was fascinated by their skyscrapers. Manderla was the first high rise building of Slovakia, with height 45 meters.

In Manderlak building there is 64 flats, in some of them it is possible to stay thru AIRBNB. In the basement there was a butcher shop of Mr. Manderla and in the first floor the legendary Bratislava’s Cafe Grand. Manderlak is still the place of the meetings and cultural life in Bratislava.
