Tour description
Wine Tasting with Sommelier in Bratislava
Discover why Slovakia is one of Central Europe’s best-kept wine secrets. In the heart of Bratislava’s Old Town, inside the magnificent Appony Palace, you’ll find the Slovak National Collection of Wines — a unique institution housing the top 100 Slovak wines, selected each year by the country’s finest oenologists, sommeliers, and winemakers. This is the only national wine salon of its kind open year-round in Europe, and it’s exclusively yours to explore with an English-speaking sommelier.
Choose your tasting experience
We offer three programs to match every curiosity and schedule:
- 3 wines (from €19 per person) — A focused introduction to Slovak wine. Perfect if you’re short on time but curious about what this country’s vineyards produce.
- 5 wines (from €28 per person) — A broader journey through different varietals and wine-growing regions, guided by your sommelier’s commentary on aromas, texture, and food pairing.
- 80 wines in 100 minutes (from €48 per person) — The complete Slovak wine salon experience. Taste wines from all 6 Slovak wine-growing regions at your own pace, with your sommelier on hand to guide, explain, and recommend. This is a rare opportunity — not just a tasting, but an education.
What makes this wine tasting special
Bratislava sits at the foot of the Small Carpathians, one of Slovakia’s most celebrated wine regions. Yet Slovak wines remain largely unknown outside the country — most of the production is consumed domestically. That makes a tasting here genuinely rare.
- Only the top 100 wines in Slovakia. Every bottle in the National Collection is selected through rigorous national competition. You won’t find supermarket wines here.
- A setting like no other. Taste in the atmospheric wine cellar of the Museum of Viticulture and Enology, housed in the historic Appony Palace in Bratislava’s city center.
- Expert guidance in English. Your professional sommelier explains each wine’s sensory properties, origin, and character — whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned wine lover.
- Open all year, flexible timing. Sessions run daily from 11:00 to 18:00. Tastings from 30 minutes to 100 minutes — choose what fits your itinerary.
Explore all 6 Slovak wine-growing regions
Slovakia’s wine tradition stretches back over 1,000 years. The country is divided into six distinct wine regions, each producing wines with its own personality. In the 80-wine program, you can taste wines from all of them:
- Small Carpathians — The most prominent wine region, just minutes from Bratislava. Known for elegant whites and light reds.
- Southern Slovakia — Warm continental climate producing fuller-bodied wines and aromatic whites.
- Nitra — One of the oldest wine regions in Central Europe, rich in mineral-driven wines.
- Central Slovakia — Higher altitude vineyards producing wines with crisp acidity and freshness.
- Eastern Slovakia — Home to unique varieties rarely found elsewhere, with volcanic soil influence.
- Tokaj — Slovakia’s share of the legendary Tokaj wine region. Sweet and semi-sweet wines of world-class reputation.
