Football
ŠK Slovan Bratislava
SK Slovan Bratislava is one of the oldest and most popular football clubs of Slovakia. Slovan Bratislava was founded in 1919 year after the I. World War after creation the first Czecho-Slovakia. The club won it’s firs trophy in 1921, when the club became the Champion of Slovakia. The club played its matches in city district Petrzalka, on second side of river Danube, where were located the leisure zone of the city. The club in 1939 when Petrzalka became part of Nazi Germany to Tehelne Pole which is home of Slovan till now. Slovan became 8 x Champion of Czechoslovakia, 5 x won the Czechoslovakian Cup, 20 x Champion of Slovakia and 17 x won the Czechoslovakian Cup. The biggest achievement of Slovan is winning of The Cup of Winners of Cup in 1969 when in Basel won over FC Barcelona 2:1. The best players of the history were: Peter Dubovsky, Karol Jokl, Jan Capkovic, Leopold Stastny, Alexander Vencel and many more.
FK Inter Bratislava
FK Inter Bratislava is the second most popular football club of Bratislava. It was founded in 1940 as SK APOLLO Bratislava. Apollo was the name of oil refinery based in Bratislava, destroyed by U.S army in 1944. The patron of the club was an oil refinery Slovnaft . The club played consequently in 1st Czechoslovakian Division from 1962 and was one of the leading clubs of Czechoslovakia. In squad of European Champions from Beograd FK Inter had a player – Ladislav Jurkemik. In years of 2000 and 2001 won a double. In 2009 this traditional club went to bankruptcy and sold the license to FK Senica. The club was saved by the supporters & one of the legend of the club Jozef Barmos. Now the club play in 3rd Slovakian division. The most famous players of the club were: Roman Kratochvil, Szilard Nemeth, Vladimir Wiess, Marian Hyll, Vratislava Gresko, Ladislav Jurkemik, Jozef Barmos, Peter Babnic and Marek Cech. The club used to play the matches in Stadium Pasienky what now is used by SK Slovan Bratislava as a training ground.
FC Petrzalka
One of the oldest football clubs in Slovakia. The club was founded in 1898 and two times played in 1st Czechoslovakian division – 1981/ 1982 and 1984/ 1985. From 1993 the club played in 1st Slovakian division. The best period of the club was under the name FC Artmedia Petrzalka under the rule of one of the best coaches of Slovakia Vladimir Weiss. The club won two times Slovakian Championship (2005 & 2008) and three times Slovakian Cup (1988, 2004, 2008). The best season of the club was year 2005/2006 when the club qualified to main stage of Champions League, beating Kazachstan Kairat Almaty, Scottish Celtic Glagow (5:0 home won), and FK Partizan Beograd. At the main stage they played with Inter Milano, FC Porto and Glasgow Rangers and qualified into the UEFA CUP. At 2008 the owner and mercenary of Petrzalka Ivan Kmotrik bought SK Slovan Bratislava and Petrzalka had started struggling what lead to the club bankruptcy. Now the club plays in 2nd Slovakian division and its home stadion Ovsviste has a capacity 1500 visitors.
The are also other football clubs playing in Bratislava in lower divisions as FK Raca in 2nd division, FK Vajnory, FK Dubravka, FC Ruzinov Bratislava. A special team is SDM Domino, a youth team of Salesians.
ICE HOCKEY
Although the football is most played sport in Slovakia, the national sport of Slovakia is Ice Hockey. When Slovakia plays in World Championship, or Olympic Games the life in whole country “freeze” and everybody watches the matches. The most popular Bratislava’s ice hockey sport club is HC Slovan Bratislava.
HC Slovan Bratislava
Probably the most popular sport club in Bratislava and also in whole country. HC Slovan Bratislava was founded in 1921 and it is one of the oldest hockey clubs of Slovakia and the first hockey club with full covered ice hockey arena. Slovan won 1 Czechoslovakian Title and 9 times Slovakian title. Between 2013 and 2019 Slovan played in KHL (Russian international Ice Hockey Championship). Now the club plays again in Slovakian Championship. The biggest rivalry is between Slovan and Kosice, Trencin and Zvolen, the leading Slovakian ice hockey clubs. The club plays its matches at Ondrej Nepela Stadium, a stadium named after the most successful Slovakian figure skater and gold Olympic medalist. The stadium with capacity 10 055 visitors has hosted 3 times World Ice Hockey Championship (1985, 2011 and 2019). The most famous players who played for Slovan are: Peter Stasny, Marian Stastny, Anton Stastny, Vaclav Nedomansky, Zdeno Ciger, Andrej Sekera, Lubomir Visnovsky, Peter Podhradsky, Miroslav Satan.
HK Ruzinov 99 Bratislava
HK Ruzinov 99 Bratislava is traditional Bratislava’s sport club, recently focusing on ice hockey youth. The club was established in 1957 under the name BEZ. From its foundation BEZ always been the basement for outstanding players, many of them playing in the best Slovakian club Slovan. In 1996 the club changed the name into SHK Danubia 96 Bratislava and played in 1st Slovakian division. In 1999 the club changed the name into HK Ruzinov 99 Bratislava under this name the club plays till now. Now the club does not have the senior team just youth teams.
The major club achievements were 3 times champion of 2.nd Slovakian Championship. The most famous players who grown in HK Ruzinov 99 are Jozef Bukovinsky, Ivan Dornic, Jan Filc, Jaroslav Halak, Dusan pasek, Vladimir Beres or Roman Kukumberg. The club plays its matches at ice hockey stadium of Vladimir Dzurilla in city of Ruzinov.
Hoba Bratislava
Hoba Bratislava or Hockey club of Bratislava is a youth hockey club established in 1991 who has a full pyramid of youth clubs. Among the best achievements of the club is raised several professional ice hockey players as for instance goaltender Matej Tomek, currently playing in HC Litvinov, Czech republic and it is a silver medalist from Winter Olympic Games 2023. The club plays their matches in ice hockey stadium in city district Dubravka.
BASKETBALL
BK Inter Bratislava
Basketball Club Inter Bratislava was established in 1962 when it fused with club Red Star. BK Inter Bratislava is the most successful Slovakian basketball club for who played also the basketball player of century in Slovakia – Stanislav Kropilak, one of the best basketball players of Europe. BK Inter Bratislava is 4th time champion of Czechoslovakia (1978/79, 1979/80, 1982/83, 1984/85) and four time champion of Slovakia (1995/96, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2016/17). The club plays it home matches in Pasienky Hall, currently under reconstruction which about to end this year.

VKP Bratislava
VKP Bratislava is Slovakian volleyball club from Bratislava what have two sections ladies and men. The club was established in 1946 under the name TKNB Bratislava. It is 11 time champion of Slovakia, and 3 time champion of Czechoslovakia,
VKP Bratislava je slovenský volejbalový klub z Bratislavy. Vznikol v roku 1946 pod názvom TKNB Bratislava. Je 11-násobný majster Slovenska, 3-násobný majster Česko-Slovenska a 7-násobný víťaz Slovenského pohára. Momentálne (2012) hrá najvyššiu domácu súťaž, Volejbalovú extraligu mužov. The club plays it matches in a New House of Sport Arena opened just in 2021 with capacity 234 seats.
Handball
SKP Bratislava
The sport club of police is successor of the club Red Star established in 1958. The club changed its name into SKP Bratislava in 1990. The club has two sections ladies and men. The club never won Slovakian championship, but won 3 times Slovakian cup. The ladies team is three time Slovakian champion and currently is playing in Czech – Slovakian league. The club plays its matches in Hall of Medicine Faculty.
